On the occasion of Raksha Bandhan which was held on 26th of August, our school VKV, Sivasagar took an unique initiative to celebrate this day. In the morning, at around 10 O'clock, few of our students from class III, V, VI with four of our teachers Papari didi, Sabita Didi, Pabitra didi and Anurupa didi went to a children's home named "Swapnalaya" to celebrate Raksha Bandhan. "Swapnalaya" is a children's home maintained by an NGO 'Shape'.
At first, one didi from"Swapnalaya" introduced us with their children and after that Pabitra didi gave an small introductory speech and our introduction to them. After that Pabitra didi told the significance of this day followed by a story of Hindu Mythology regarding Raksha Bandhan. After the speech our children/ students started to tie rakhi to the children one by one with 'Aarti' and 'Tikka' to the children. Some of the outside people are also present in this program and celebrated with us. We also took some sweet for them and distributed. Few of our students sang our 'Shibir Geet' infront of them.
After the performance of song by our students we finally ended our Raksha Bandhan celebration.
In addition to this on 27th August, Monday, our school also celebrated Raksha Bandhan at school campus. From class III to class VII, all the students assembled in the prayer hall and tied rakhi one another. The program was ended with Shantipath.
